Valerie Shelton
Valerie trained in Fashion and Textiles at Brighton and Bristol Colleges of Art; she is an accomplished painter in watercolours and has shown her paintings in many exhibitions over the years but now only paints on ceramics. Her wide experience is reflected in her understanding and use of colour. She started painting on ceramics 20 years ago and since then has worked full time producing pottery with her husband Ken under the name Shelton Pottery. Her work varies from abstract designs to more figurative flower and fruit paintings; colour is used unsparingly to create rich mixtures and subtle shades. The mark of the brush is at the core of Valerie’s painting style, though she also employs techniques of pouring, splatter and dribbled colour. Valerie has also designed for industrial pottery makers, including manufacturers in Thailand, Poland and Slovenia. Shelton Pottery’s work is sold in ceramic galleries and top end gift shops and has been exhibited in many galleries including The Courtauld Gallery in London, Collins Gallery Glasgow, Lady Lever Art Gallery and many prestigious galleries throughout the country. Valerie has been elected a Professional Member of the Craft Potters Association of Great Britain. Vals Extravaganza Seminar Pieces
