Notes on Location of Ceramic Café/ Paint a Pot Studios Ceramic Café/ Paint a Pot Studios are a rapidly growing business in the UK having been firmly established throughout the United States for the last decade. The concept is that the studio offers a facility for customers to paint their own designs on real pottery called “bisque”. The work is then given a heat treatment process producing a glazed finish, the customer returns to collect the pot in a few days. The pottery is manufactured specifically for this process and supplied by Cromartie to studios around the country, the glazing process, which protects the colours, takes place at a much lower temperature than that used to manufacture the pottery. Typically this process takes place at the end of the day so the kiln is usually firing throughout the night. Cromartie kilns have no exposed vent to the firing chamber that would present a fire risk; the external jacket temperature is approximately 120°C and when basic instructions are followed regarding location there is no hazard. Ceramic Cafés are often located in High Streets or off High Street shop locations classified for A1 A2 use, where there is good local foot traffic. They are presented in a similar manner to cafés with groups of tables and chairs providing workstations for the customers. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any further information.
