2. Composition

Component                    CAS                 EINECS                        % of  composition

Refer to Table 1

3. Health Hazard Identification

Inhalation;                                 Will irritate the nose and upper respiratory tracts

Ingestion:                                  Will cause nausea and vomiting

Eyes:                                        Will sting and high concentrations will be irritating

Skin:                                         May cause redness and irritation, especially if spilled onto clothing and

allowed to remain in contact with the skin over a period of time.

4. First Aid Measures

Inhalation Remove patient to fresh air, loosen tight clothing and seek medical

attention

Ingestion Rinse mouth with water and give milk. Do not induce vomiting, seek

medical advice

Eyes Wash immediately with copious amounts of water or isotonic saline

solution for 15 minutes. Seek medical advice

Skin Remove contaminated clothing and wash skin with soap and water. Do not

use solvents. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist.

5. Fire Fighting Measures

Extinguishing Media:                  Carbon dioxide, dry powder or foam extinguishers

Special Exposure hazard:           The material is flammable and if ignited will burn producing toxic fumes.

Personal protective equipment:    Self contained breathing apparatus

6. Accidental Release Measures

Leaks & Spills:                          Remove all sources of ignition. Small spills can be wiped up with absorbent paper. Cover larger spills with sand or other inert absorbent. Collect in a suitable container for disposal or further treatment.

Personal protective equipment:  Chemical resistant gloves and, in areas of poor ventilation, respiratory

protection

7. Handling & Storage

Handling:                                   Use only under conditions of good local ventilation. Avoid contact with the

skin and eyes. Do not eat, drink, smoke or apply cosmetics whilst using these materials

Storage:                                    Store in a sealed container in a cool dry place away from any sources of

Ignition.

8. Exposure Control/Personal protective Equipment

Engineering controls Adequate ventilation should be provided so that Occupational

Exposure Limits are not exceeded. Local Exhaust Ventilation is

normally recommended

Personal protective

equipment

Where LEV is not practicable and exposure is likely to be excessive,

approved respiratory protection to CEN standards prEN 140, 141,

143 or 149 should be worn. Protective gloves and overalls are

recommended for prolonged contact.

Vapour and fumes from drying, curing, firing or kilning operations

should be discharged to the atmosphere in accordance with local

and national regulations

9. Physical & Chemical properties

Appearance & Odour Brown (except for P4384 and P4385, both colourless) varnish like

liquid, with characteristic odour

Flash point (ºC) Please refer to summary table

Flammability Will ignite if heated or in contact with a flame

Explosive properties Not explosive

Oxidising properties Not oxidising

Specific gravity 1-1.2

pH value Not applicable

Melting point (ºC) No data available

10. Stability & Reactivity

Chemical stability:                                 The material is supplied in a stable condition but will lose solvent by evaporation. Note that the solvents are heavier than air and can accumulate, travel to sources of ignition and flashback.

Conditions/materials to avoid:                  Avoid contact with strong oxidising agents such as chlorates,

perchlorates, permanganates, nitric acid or sulphuric acid.

Hazardous decomposition products:        Cyclohexanone explodes when added to nitric acid and, on

mixing with hydrogen peroxide it produces oily explosive peroxides

Hazardous polymerization products:        Not known

11. Toxicology Information

Acute toxicology:                       There is no specific data available for this preparation data. Data for the components indicate that the oral toxicity LD50 (oral-rat) 200-2000mg/kg

Health effects:                           The preparation is harmful and individual solvents are mild skin

irritants and mild to severe eye irritants

12. Ecological information

Ecotoxicity:                               The organic solvents are toxic to fish at a concentration of about 50ppm

Persistence:                              The cured preparation, resins and plastics are only sparingly soluble

in water and will pose no threat to the environment

13. Disposal

Small spills can be absorbed onto paper and burnt in an incinerator, in accordance with local and national regulations.  Large quantities can be mixed with sand and disposed of to landfill in accordance with local

and national regulations.
