Cromartie Italian Glaze Set UpCromartie Italian glaze, otherwise know as Hobby Colorobbia HC0004 is a long established, reliable lead-free glaze. All glazes have their own characteristics, if you are changing from another glaze here are a few tips to help you get started. You will need to add water to thin the glaze to the required viscosity, use de-ionised water, readily available from motoring departments of supermarkets. Always use a viscosity cup and stop watch or a clock with an easily visible second hand. For this glaze we recommend that the cup should empty in 20 seconds which means the stream starts to break at 18 seconds. Please bear in mind that the viscosity will vary depending on temperature. You can mix the glaze manually with a caterers whisk, wooden spoon etc or with an electric power drill with glaze mixer attachment; avoid putting air into the glaze during the mixing. The Cromartie Italian glaze can be used as a brush on glaze in its concentrated form before it is watered down. Dip the bisque into the glaze with a smooth motion straight in and out. The glaze will appear quite thin and will be runny for a while, hold the piece over the dipping tub till the glaze firms up. Fire in the usual way ensuring that cone 06 is down correctly.
