Ceramic bisque
Ceramic bisque as sold by Cromartie is a great hobby to get into. Basically, it involves painting, glazing and firing pieces of pottery for ornamental or household use. Cromartie supply ceramic bisque to clay cafés and pottery studios and this is where you would go to indulge your pastime. The ceramic bisque that Cromartie supply is mainly manufactured by two large companies, Gare and Duncan. They produce the ceramic bisque as plates, vases, childrens moneyboxes, animals, even bats, dragons and monsters!
There really is no end to the range of ceramic bisque available. Cromartie, based in Stoke on Trent, even have their own ceramic pottery painting studio, (Paint a Pot Studio), where there is a beautiful café, childrens play area and separate hobby rooms which double as training classrooms for those interested in learning more about the hobby. In recent years many people have taken the opportunity to start their own ceramic bisque business, usually either in the mode of a high street café (clay café/ceramic café/contemporary art studio…there are many names), or by starting their own mobile pottery painting business which is run on the ‘party’ basis, travelling to homes, hosting pottery painting parties where guests get to choose, pay for and then decorate their own piece of pottery. The host will usually take all he decorated pieces of ceramic bisque away to fire them in their kiln before sending them out to the respective guests some days later.
