Brush on glazes
Brush on glazes are what prepare the decorated bisque to make it ready to be fired. We supply two main brands, Gare and Duncan. Our brush on glazes are used in conjunction with the ceramic hobbycraft industry – a growing interest involving decorating bisque pottery, then using brush on glazes, before firing the pottery to a finished state. Some hobby enthusiasts have created whole tableware sets for themselves, others have simply spent the odd hour in a clay café, decorating a bisque bunny or giraffe before leaving it with the studio manager to apply the brush on glazes and fire it ready for collection.
You may have seen a clay café in your local shopping precinct or high street. These are the places we distribute undecorated bisque pottery to. They in turn sell pieces to customers who visit who then have an enjoyable time decorating their chosen item, usually over a coffee or two - plus enjoying the company of other hobby enthusiasts.
Cromartie have our own clay café where people can visit and spend time painting a wide range of different items, from clay animals to ornaments and plates and dishes etc. We also hold regular training courses throughout the year so people can come and learn different decorating techniques. You will need to visit our main web site for details of courses and for any technical date regarding brush on glazes, paints and associated hobbycraft accessories.
