Bisqueware

Bisque is the name for the fired pottery that is painted in Ceramic Cafés or Paint A Pot studios. At Cromartie we offer two ranges of bisque:

Gare Bisquefire and Duncan Oh Four bisque.

       

Bisque is produced in various factories around the world; all of it is made to be compatible with Duncan and Gare colour and glaze, in technical terms it matches the expansion of the glaze. This means that when fired correctly the ware will conform the health and safety requirements and problems such as shivering, pinholing and crazing are virtually eliminated. Cromartie’s bisque may also be compatible with other glazes but it is the customer’s responsibility to test before buying quantity.

The quality of finish in these products leads the market; the fine earthenware clay is quality controlled throughout the process and meticulously cleaned to ensure a smooth surface for beautiful end results.

Duncan and Gare’s design teams have produced many exclusive pieces that are only found in their ranges. New designs are being produced all the time so that the choice is continually widening.

Both companies produce ranges of easy to use colours specifically designed for Paint A Pot studios. Duncan Enterprises

For 60 years, Duncan Enterprises has been a leading ceramics arts manufacturer with a reputation for excellence in colour, quality, safety and education. It all started with Erma Duncan, a talented artist who enjoyed sharing her gift with everyone. Erma began teaching china painting while still in her teens.

Ceramics sparked Erma’s artistic interest when she saw it as an economic alternative to china painting. Erma soon began teaching ceramics from her home and mixing her own ceramic glazes, which were so good, she could barely keep up with demand. It was from this humble labour of love that Duncan Enterprises got its start. Three generations later, Duncan Enterprises continues to inspire creativity with the vision of the current CEO, Larry Duncan, Erma’s grandson, who has introduced many new items including the 04 Bisque range.

Gare Inc

Gare are a family-owned company and have been designing, manufacturing and marketing ceramic hobby products worldwide since 1950.

Some of our key products include a full range of ceramic bisque, fired colours including underglazes and glazes, stains, brushes, sprays, recipes and literature. Many of these products are manufactured in their factory located in the scenic New England town of Haverhill, Massachusetts.

Gare pride themselves not only on the quality of their products, but in developing new and exciting goods that will keep customers coming back for more.
