The hobby market is booming as never before. Everything from tapestry to matchstick model making is generating interest from a society otherwise engrossed in work. There has to be playtime sometimes… doesn’t there?

Cromartie are one of the UKs largest wholesale distributors of bisque pottery, supplying to clay cafes (otherwise known as ceramic cafes and contemporary art studios), even mobile paint your own pottery party businesses. We also have our very own clay café at our plant in Stoke on Trent. We therefore take arts and crafts extremely seriously. The market for hobby ceramics has grown considerably in recent years and many clay cafes have popped up across the UK as a result. We used to manufacturer kilns and, whilst we still work closely with kilns, our business has evolved into supplying the bisque pottery that is sold by clay café owners to customer ready to be painted and fired in a kiln.

Clay café owners love arts and crafts but see painting pottery, in a relaxed café type environment, as a very social and satisfying business. It is probably true that most café owners started out themselves as avid arts and crafts enthusiasts who hit upon painting pottery and decided to make a living from something they really enjoy.
